2018 Crossroads Colloquium at Tulane

Nina Tandon, PhD, MBA, founder of EpiBone, which is the world’s first company growing living bones, was the guest speaker for the 2018 Crossroads Colloquium on the uptown Tulane campus on April 16th. Tandon described her fascinating journey to this area of interest: as an electrical engineer, her initial work was developing a living “beating cell,” which mimicked heart cells. She moved on to develop living bone cells, and now performs collaborative work with Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian and locally with the New Orleans BioInnovation Center.

Notable attendees of the Crossroads Colloquium were Mrs. Thomas Whitecloud, wife of former Tulane orthopaedic chair, Thomas Whitecloud, and their son, Saint, Donald P. Gaver, professor and department chair of Tulane’s biomedical engineering department, and James Bennett, MD, professor of orthopaedics at Tulane’s medical school.
